I’m not advocating violence, merely pointing out that social norms change as new generations come into power.  Many people my age grew up watching Paco on The Real World, and then Will and Grace, and now watch Modern Family once their own kids are asleep.  We have queer friends, or we are the queer friends.  We grew up with AIDS on the front page- we knew gay people EXISTED in a way previous generations didn’t.  Then the internet came along and and things changed even more radically- from message boards to OkCupid, from Grindr to FetLife and more.
